On Sunday November 10th, the LadyJags traveled to Bergen op Zoom to face yet another opponent: The Keizerstad Kannibalz (Nijmegen). Spirit was high as the ladies prepared themselves for the game, even though they only had 11 players.

The beginning of the first quarter the Jaguars were surprised by a goal by the Kannibalz within the first minute. It took our Ladies some time to wake up and take charge. Lucy shot and scored the opening goal for the Jags, which happens to be her first goal in the first division! Dieke and Marjo also joined in on the scoring fun, making the score 3-2 for the Lady Jags at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter made clear that these teams were truly evenly matched. Both had strong defence and strong attack and both teams scored twice in this quarter.

In the third quarter the LadyJags got a bit sloppy. More unforced turnovers made for an exhausting quarter and even a yellow card! Although the bright sun shone in the goalies eyes, Jet saved half of the balls our opponent shot at her throughout the game. The score at the end of the third quarter was a thrilling 9-9.

The fourth quarter begins. The LadyJags are in the lead with a one point difference. Tension is high as the end of the game approaches. Both sides become slightly more physical resulting in another yellow card for Rotterdam. The Keizerstad Kannibalz clearly haven’t given up, because they score a goal in the last 2 minutes, resulting in the a ty: 12-12.

A golden goal in overtime would decide who wins the match. Sadly, the deciding goal was made by Nijmegen. Although the Lady Lags lost in the end, they showed great spirit, endurance and skills. The game was almost too thrilling to watch and I can’t wait to meet the Kannibalz on the field again in the next half of the season. Sticks UP!
